The visit of the delegation of the Republic of Maldives to the IX Moscow Conference on International Security is regarded as an intention to develop a political dialogue. This was announced on Wednesday by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Alexander Fomin. The Russian military commander held a meeting with his Maldivian counterpart Hassan Zamil, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Maldives, within the framework of the forum.
"We consider your visit to Russia as an intention to strengthen relations between our states, to develop a political dialogue, including through the defense ministries," the deputy head of the Russian military department said at the meeting.
Fomin recalled the meeting of the defense ministers of Russia and the Maldives in 2019. According to him, the Russian side attaches "paramount importance"to this meeting. "The agreements reached at that time contribute to the solution of tasks that are primarily related to countering modern challenges and threats," the Russian Deputy Defense Minister explained.
