"During the joint operation of the Russian and Belarusian special services, the preparation of an insurrection with the physical elimination of the head of the Belarusian state and his family members was stopped. And at the moment, the investigation has uncovered irrefutable evidence of the involvement of American state structures in this, " Khrenin said at the IX Moscow Conference on International Security.
Earlier, the FSB of Russia reported that it helped prevent a coup in Belarus on May 9. "The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, together with the State Security Committee of the Republic of Belarus, as a result of a special operation, suppressed the illegal activities of Yuri Leonidovich Zenkovich, who has dual citizenship of the United States and the Republic of Belarus, and Alexander Iosifovich Feduta, a citizen of the Republic of Belarus, who planned to carry out a military coup in Belarus according to the worked - out scenario of "color revolutions" with the involvement of local and Ukrainian nationalists, as well as the physical elimination of President A. Lukashenko," the FSB Public Relations Center (PSC) told reporters.
According to the intelligence services, Zenkovich and Feduta consulted with representatives of the United States and Poland. "It is noteworthy that the oppositionists chose the day of the Victory Parade in Minsk on May 9 this year as the date of the military coup," the FSB said.
The ultimate goal of the conspiracy, they added, was to change the constitutional system with the abolition of the post of president and the assignment of the leadership of the country to the "Committee of National Reconciliation". "At the same time, Zenkovich planned to become a" curator" of the country's parliament and the legal system, and Feduta wanted to engage in political reform and ideological work, " the FSB noted.
The conspirators were detained by the Russian security authorities and handed over to their Belarusian partners.
