Hong Kong. June 20. INTERFAX-The leader of the military in power in Myanmar, Min Aung Hlaine, went to Russia, Chinese TV channel CGTN reported on Sunday, citing Burmese media.
It is expected that he will take part in the Moscow Conference on International Security.
On February 1, a military coup took place in Myanmar. The Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, Min Aung Hlaine, has concentrated the legislative, executive and judicial powers in his hands.
On June 17, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that defense ministers from 31 countries are planning to fly to Moscow to attend a conference on international security, which is being held by the Russian military department on June 22-24.
"This year, about 600 participants from more than 100 countries have been registered. The defense ministers of 45 states (including 14 via videoconference), as well as the heads of various international organizations, representatives of the expert community and academic circles confirmed their readiness to attend the forum," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on its website.
The official opening of the conference will take place on June 23. "The program of the forum includes the holding of plenary sessions, discussions and round tables, which will discuss the issues that are most important in shaping views on global and regional security," the report says.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that the central topics of discussion will be modern threats and challenges to security in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, arms control, cybersecurity, countering coronavirus, military and military-technical cooperation, transparency of military activities.
The security Conference has been held in Moscow under the auspices of the Russian Defense Ministry since 2012. In 2020, the conference was decided not to be held due to the coronavirus.
