Moscow. June 17. INTERFAX-Defense ministers from 31 countries are planning to fly to Moscow to attend a conference on international security, which is being held by the Russian Defense Ministry on June 22-24.
"This year, about 600 participants from more than 100 countries have been registered. The defense ministers of 45 states (including 14 via videoconference), as well as the heads of various international organizations, representatives of the expert community and academic circles confirmed their readiness to attend the forum," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on its website.
The official opening of the conference will take place on June 23. "The program of the forum includes the holding of plenary sessions, discussions and round tables, which will discuss the issues that are most important in shaping views on global and regional security," the report says.
The Russian Defense Ministry said that the central topics of discussion will be modern threats and challenges to security in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America, arms control, cybersecurity, countering coronavirus, military and military-technical cooperation, transparency of military activities.
As reported, against the background of the situation with the coronavirus, the Russian Defense Ministry was ordered to hold a Moscow conference on international security, taking into account the recommendations of Rospotrebnadzor when organizing mass events with foreign participation.
The corresponding decree of the Government of the Russian Federation signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin was published on June 16 on the official Internet portal of legal information. Alexander Fomin, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, was appointed responsible for the conference.
The security Conference has been held in Moscow under the auspices of the Russian Defense Ministry since 2012. In 2020, the conference was decided not to be held due to the coronavirus.
