As reported by Ukrainian media, the Ukrainian state enterprise "state Kyiv design Bureau "Luch" held in Kiev from 15 to 18 June 2021 once the military-industrial exhibition "Zbroya TA BEZPEKA-2021" for the first time presented a model that they develop controlled aircraft missiles up-277 of class "air-air" medium-range active radar homing head.

A model of the UP-277 medium-range air-to-air guided missile with an active radar homing head, developed by the Ukrainian state enterprise "State Kiev Design Bureau "Luch", is on display at the defense industry exhibition"Zbroya ta Bezpeka-2021". Kiev, 14.06.2021 (c) Mizhnarodny vystavkoviy center

As is clear from the index of the missile and its appearance, the UP-277 is actually created on the basis of the first Soviet R-77 medium-range air-to-air missile with an active radar homing head, the serial production of which was mastered from the end of the 1980s at the Artyom GAHK (Kiev), but was discontinued after the release of the installation batch due to the collapse of the USSR. The visual difference between the UP-277 and the R-77 is the replacement of the tail lattice rudders with conventional ones.

It is stated that the UP-277 missile is designed to intercept and destroy air attack and reconnaissance vehicles with an effective reflecting surface of at least 0.1 m2

The UP-277 missile has increased tactical capabilities and noise immunity, is equipped with an active radar homing head and a non-contact radar target sensor.

The missile is intended for use in fighter aircraft weapons systems, the missile is launched from a launch device.
