BRUSSELS, June 14-RIA Novosti. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that following the summit in Brussels, there are no plans to announce the date of entry of new countries into the alliance.
The NATO summit will be held on Monday in Brussels with the physical participation of the leaders of the allied countries. The summit will discuss the new strategic concept of the alliance until 2030, Russia, China, strengthening technological development, combating climate change and threats in cyberspace and outer space.
"I expect that the leaders today will confirm the decisions that were made earlier regarding the accession of new members, including the statement that Georgia will become a member of NATO. But we did not provide any deadlines, we will also not provide any dates today, "he said, answering a question about when Tbilisi will be able to get a "road map" for joining the organization.
He stressed that NATO " will focus on reforms, will focus on supporting Georgia, modernizing defense institutions and security structures. Our message is that the doors of NATO are open... the decision to expand our alliance will be made by Georgia and the thirty allied countries."
Representatives of Ukraine and Georgia were not invited to the summit of the North Atlantic Alliance, which caused discontent in Kiev and Tbilisi, which expected to receive an "action plan" for joining the organization in the near future. As Secretary General Stoltenberg said on the eve of the summit, the allies decided to hold talks without the participation of partner countries, since the meeting will be quite short. At the same time, support for Ukraine and Georgia is on the agenda, but the leaders will mainly focus on further promoting reforms in these countries. In addition, it is planned to confirm the alliance's "open door" policy at the summit.
