On Wednesday, in St. Petersburg, the heads of the CIS general staffs agreed on the idea of a joint exercise with live firing. "The exercise" Combat Commonwealth-2021 "of the joint air defense system will be held in September in two stages at the training grounds of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan," said Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.
He also said that during the meeting, tasks were defined in the field of building the aerospace defense system of the Commonwealth member states, joint activities of the armed forces for 2022 were agreed, and ways of developing cooperation in the field of defense and military security were outlined.
All these decisions were made by the generals based on the requirements formulated in the new Concept of military cooperation of the CIS member states until 2025. The heads of the CIS general staffs approved a long-term plan for its implementation. Among other things, we are talking about the creation and development of joint (unified) military systems, increasing the level of cooperation between the defense departments on issues of comprehensive support, training of military personnel and countering terrorism.
The heads of the CIS general staffs also analyzed the experience of the radiation, chemical and biological protection troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection and assessed the state of aviation safety in the Commonwealth Army.
The meeting was attended by military delegations from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and the Secretariat of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth.
