The head of Roscosmos was also surprised that government lawyers are on the side of a private company
MOSCOW, June 7. /TASS/. The United States, during the signing of a contract with the Russian company S7 for the sale of the "Sea Launch", banned its use in competition with Elon Musk's SpaceX. This was announced on Monday by the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin.
"Specific strict restrictions were imposed when signing a contract for the transfer of two Sea Launch vessels to a Russian company, that we do not have the right to use them in competition with Elon Musk, "he explained, speaking at a parliamentary hearing in the State Duma on the topic of Western sanctions and measures to minimize their impact on Russia's politics and economy.
The head of Roscosmos was also surprised that government lawyers are on the side of a private company. He also recalled that the United States "pulled out all the equipment" from the "Sea Launch", and promised to restore the floating spaceport.
The Sea Launch cosmodrome consists of the Odyssey floating launch platform and a command ship. The program operated until 2014 - 32 launches of the Zenit rocket were carried out from a platform based off the coast of the United States. In 2014, the launch activity of the Sea Launch was suspended, and in September 2016, the S7 group of companies became the owner of the rocket and space complex.
In the spring of 2020, the command ship and the platform moved from the coast of the United States and moored at the pier of the Slavyansky Ship Repair Plant in Primorye.
