The Russian Defense Ministry will form about 20 new formations and military units in the Western Military District in response to the actions of NATO countries. On the air of Sputnik radio, this decision was commented on by a military expert, candidate of Historical Sciences Ivan Konovalov.
About 20 new formations and military units will be formed in the Western Military District by the end of the year, and modern weapons and equipment will be delivered to the new units, said the head of the military department, Army General Sergei Shoigu.
According to him, this will be a response to the activity of NATO countries near the Russian borders.
The minister noted that the North Atlantic Alliance, led by the United States, has recently increased the intensity of strategic aviation flights, as well as the presence of warships with cruise missiles, and the number of exercises is growing.
"The actions of our Western colleagues destroy the security system in the world and force us to take adequate measures to counteract them. We are constantly improving the combat composition of the troops, " RIA Novosti quoted Shoigu as saying.
According to the minister, this year the troops of the Far Eastern Military District plan to equip two thousand units of weapons.
