However, this preparation did not bring results, and the country lost the Crimea
In Ukraine, they were honing their strategies for fighting Russia long before the events that took place in 2014. This statement was made by Major General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Zakharov. Speaking on one of the local TV channels, he noted that the General Staff of the country began to develop an action plan in the event of clashes with the Russian Federation back in 2007.
The reason for working out scenarios of a potential war was the speech of Russian leader Vladimir Putin at the Munich Conference on Security Policy.
"We did not do nothing, but began to create military documents, various operational plans were considered. We were preparing for the fact that we will fight with the Russian Federation, " he said.
Zakharov noted that the Ukrainian military trained to resist the Russian troops in the Donbass and in the Crimea. Despite this, Moscow took the Ukrainian Armed Forces by surprise by annexing Crimea, RIA Novosti reports.
"If we talk from the point of view of strategy, we considered this possibility. However, the Russian Federation used unexpected tactics, " the general added.
