The Afghan Ambassador to Russia, Saeed Tayeb Javad, said that Kabul is ready to buy weapons and military equipment from Moscow if the countries reach an agreement on this issue.
"Yes, if Russia agrees," he said in an interview with TASS published on Saturday, May 29.
The ambassador noted that Afghanistan hopes that Moscow will consider the possibility of repairing existing military equipment and training pilots and mechanics.
During the interview, the ambassador also spoke about the government's intention to strengthen security ties with Russia after the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country, as well as to work together to create a "sustainable peace".
"We appreciate Moscow's principled position on preventing the restoration of the Islamic emirate and the exclusion of the leaders of the Taliban (the organization is banned in the Russian Federation. - Ed.) from the UN sanctions lists before fulfilling their obligations in relation to the peace process. These are two important principles of Russia that we value, " he stressed.
Earlier, on May 11, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, said that Russia is following the development of the situation in Afghanistan and is ready to hold contacts on this issue with the United States and other members of the expanded "troika".
On April 30, the participants of the expanded "troika" (Russia, the United States, China, and Pakistan) on the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan held consultations on the Afghan settlement. Following the meeting, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a joint statement of the parties, which indicated the final withdrawal of the US military by September 11, 2021 and the expectation of the Taliban to fulfill their counter-terrorism obligations.
