Sochi. May 24. INTERFAX-Russia will support Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in the long-term settlement of the border conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"We have carefully and with great concern watched the situation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border. As you know, the President of Tajikistan recently paid a visit to Moscow. We also discussed this issue with him. We positively perceived the intention of the two sides to resolve all disputed issues of this kind during the negotiations, " Putin said during the Russian-Kyrgyz talks in Sochi.
"I am sure that this goal can be achieved in this way. We will do everything that depends on us to help you resolve these issues," he stressed.
Putin added that the solution to the conflict should be long-term and meet the interests of both sides.
"We will also strive for this, and we will help in every possible way," the Russian president said.
In turn, Zhaparov thanked Putin for his attention to the situation on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. "I would like to express my personal gratitude for your attention and empathy regarding the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border," the President of Kyrgyzstan said.
He also thanked the Russian president for the support provided to the people of Kyrgyzstan. "Russia is our main ally and trade and economic partner, so I hope for fruitful negotiations on all issues today. Thank you again for the invitation and the warm welcome, " Zhaparov said.
