The United States Army Corps of Engineers plans to explore potential contractors for a project to build military facilities in 20 countries in the Middle East and Central Asia. The corresponding initiative is estimated at $240 million, as reported on Wednesday, May 19.
As noted in the application of the military department, the contractors are assigned the task of designing the construction of military facilities, including airports, the necessary infrastructure, highways, ports, hospitals, manufacturing plants, power plants and water supply networks. The project also involves the construction of runways, taxiways and aprons designed for all types of aircraft.
"The technical specifications include, but are not limited to, design services within the framework of military sales and military construction programs, including horizontal and vertical structures for various objects," RT quotes the text of the document.
It is planned to allocate $240 million for the corresponding project of the military department, and the duration of the contract with contractors is expected to be five years. The Pentagon has designated such regions as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan as territories for the construction of new facilities.
Earlier, on May 15, it became known that the United States intends to deploy two Northrop Grumman MQ-4C Triton drones for five months at the Misawa military base located in Japan. One of the devices has already been delivered to the site.
As noted in the Japanese Ministry of Defense, the temporary deployment of long-range reconnaissance vehicles will strengthen security by strengthening surveillance activities over the maritime space against the background of increased activity in the surrounding countries. So, in recent years, Japan is most concerned about China's activity in the area of the Senkaku Islands, where regular visits to the territory by Chinese ships were recorded.
