In Ukraine, the decision of the National Security Council of the country (NSDC) of May 14, which provides for an increase in military spending in the budget of Ukraine in the next three years, was put into effect. The corresponding decree was signed by the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky on May 18.
"To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of May 14, 2021 "On proposals for the budget declaration for 2022-2024 on items related to ensuring national security and defense of Ukraine," the document says.
Zelensky assigned control over the implementation of the NSDC decision to the secretary of the Council, Alexey Danilov. The decree comes into force from the date of publication.
We are talking about the decision of the National Security Council to increase spending on security and defense in 2022, 2023 and 2024, taking into account the military-political situation. The Cabinet of Ministers was also instructed to provide in the budget declaration "expenditures on ensuring national security and defense of Ukraine in the amount of at least 5% of the planned GDP".
Also on Tuesday, Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Taran said that the country is considering the possibility of acquiring an anti-missile system similar to the Israeli Iron Dome complex.
He noted that recent events in Israel have demonstrated the need for a missile defense system in Ukraine, and the Iron Dome is one of the best examples of it. The minister also said that Ukraine last year began " certain actions to create a missile defense system."
Earlier, on May 14, Danilov said that in the near future Zelensky may sign a decree on the creation of cyber forces in the country.
The NSDC Secretary noted that at the next meeting of the council, eight issues were considered, including the approval of the cybersecurity strategy of Ukraine, as well as the issue of biological security and protection.
