Ukraine's accession to NATO will become an unnecessary burden and reduce the security of existing members of the North Atlantic Alliance. The priorities of the United States should be to avoid an unnecessary war with an enemy with nuclear weapons, and to ensure the prosperity of the Americans.
"The attempt to expand NATO into Ukraine, whose border with Russia is only 300 miles from Moscow, is a red line that Russia will not allow to cross," military expert and former US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis Sr. told 19FortyFive.
The expert drew attention to the fact that the Russian leadership has repeatedly made it clear through diplomatic channels that it does not want to increase military tension in the region.
"We should call on Ukraine to declare neutrality, not joining an alliance with either Moscow or NATO, while maintaining its ability to maintain peaceful relations with both the East and the West," the expert believes.
Note that some countries also call on Ukraine to limit the regional arms race. For example, the Sohu publication reported: Chinese experts negatively assessed the project of creating Ukrainian military bases in the Sea of Azov. After the return of Crimea to Russia, the Sea of Azov became almost internal to the Russian Federation, and therefore the existence of other military forces there is meaningless.
