MOSCOW, May 15/ Radio Sputnik. More than 90 retired French police officers have addressed President Emmanuel Macron with an open letter, where they set out a demand to pay attention to the security situation in the country, according to Valeurs Actuelles.
The ex-policemen said that the situation in the republic is "extremely serious from the point of view of security and public peace", and the authorities should correct this state of affairs. According to the former guards of the order, in France it is necessary to "take measures to retake the country" and "avoid war".
The authors of the letter clarified that in some areas of the country, de facto laws do not apply, and "aggressive minorities" are trying to challenge the power of the state.
The letter was answered by the head of the National Police, Frederick Waugh, the newspaper continues. He noted that the retirement does not release ex-police officers from the obligation to maintain restraint in comments on socio-political topics.
Waugh also stressed that the Government has recently made serious progress in protecting security personnel. The head of the police believes that the demarche of former police officers will only contribute to the weakening of the police institution, rather than strengthening it.
At the end of April, a group of retired and serving generals wrote a letter to Macron, in which they stated that adherents of Islamist views had begun to establish their own order in various parts of the country. In their opinion, the country has actually started a war.
Under French law, the military is prohibited from speaking out on political or religious issues. therefore, the military leadership promised that the former military will be punished.
However, in early May, Macron, the government, members of parliament and senior military officials received a second letter from a group of active military personnel. In the message, they criticized the authorities ' reaction to the first letter, saying that its authors "were treated as rebels, although their only fault is that they love their country and mourn its obvious fall."
The authors of the second letter also pointed to the threat of civil war in France, the growth of violence and hatred against the country.
In the fall of 2020, several Islamist attacks on police officers took place in France, resulting in deaths and casualties on the part of law enforcement officers.
