European countries have started implementing the PILUM project. Yesterday, May 3, the press service of the European Defense Agency (EDA) announced the official start of work on the creation of an experimental electromagnetic weapon.
"The main goal of PILUM is to theoretically and experimentally investigate the possibility of creating a railgun and ultra-high-speed projectiles for it. This project will address serious scientific and technological gaps and provide the first proof of concept for the electromagnetic railgun as a long-range artillery system, " the EDA press service said.

The PILUM consortium is led by the French-German Saint-Louis Research Institute (ISL). PILUM also includes institutes and commercial companies from France, Germany, Poland and Belgium. The project is designed for 24 months. For the first stage of work, €1.5 million is provided. A study is planned later to consider the possibility of integrating the electromagnetic gun in land and sea platforms.
