Yerevan. May 3. INTERFAX-AVN-Two strongholds of the 102nd Russian military base have been established in the Syunik region bordering Azerbaijan and Iran in the south of Armenia, Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said.
"Two strongholds of the 102nd Russian military base have been established in the Syunik region. This is an additional guarantee for ensuring the security of not only the Syunik region, but also Armenia, " Pashinyan said, speaking in parliament on Monday.
Armenia is Russia's CSTO ally. There is a Russian military base in Armenia.
Moscow provided Yerevan with a state loan for the purchase of Russian weapons and equipment.
The Russian peacekeeping contingent operates in Nagorno-Karabakh. It was introduced after the cessation of hostilities between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces in Karabakh on November 10, 2020.
The Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh has 1960 military personnel. It is based on the units of the 15th separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Central Military District.
