In 2020, the US Missile Defense Agency failed twice to test the THAAD-Patriot system.
The US government's Accounting Chamber has published a report on the country's missile defense. The document notes that in 2020, the Agency twice tested the THAAD-Patriot system for integration, but both flight tests were unsuccessful. A total of nine such launches were planned, but seven had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
THAAD is a mobile ground-based system designed to protect against medium-range missiles at high altitude. The complex includes launchers, radars, fire control and communication systems. Now the United States is actively engaged in its modernization. THAAD will receive a more advanced radar and will issue target designation to Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.
