Brussels. April 29. INTERFAX - MEPs on Thursday approved a 7.9 billion euro fund project designed to strengthen the defense of EU countries, European media reported.
It is expected that this money will be spent in the EU over the next seven years on joint research projects related to the defense sector. In particular, part of the money will go to the development of fundamentally new technologies.
"We need to be able to take care of our own safety. Then we will be able to be a serious player in terms of ensuring security on the world stage, " said Thierry Breton, member of the European Commission (EC) for the internal market of the European Union, explaining why this fund is needed.
