The Kalashnikov Group of companies presented a smooth-bore version of its new AKV-521 carbine for a hunting cartridge.366 TCM. The main advantage of the new product will be that it will be possible to get it without five years of experience in the possession of weapons, as is required in the case of rifled barrels.
As explained by the director of the design center for civil small arms of the Kalashnikov Group of Companies, Valentin Vlasenko, the smooth barrel of the AKV-521 has a 140-millimeter drill bit in the final part. At the same time, the diameter of the barrel under the cartridge .366 TCM is larger than the 5.45 and 7.62 calibers, and the size of the gas chamber has been increased accordingly. As a result, an empty product without a magazine weighs 3.9 kilograms - about 100 grams more than its rifled counterpart.
Since we are talking about smoothbore weapons, the effective firing distance will be up to 300 meters. It is expected that the release of this version of the carbine will begin simultaneously with the rifled modifications.
As already written by "RG", the AKV-521 is based on the idea that the optics should be inextricably linked to the barrel. Therefore, structurally, the weapon consists of two main parts-upper and lower. The first is the actual barrel assembly with the bolt and return spring, the second is everything else. The optics bar occupies the entire length of the receiver. At the same time, it is possible to change the barrels for different calibers.
