MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. The first new-generation navigation satellite, Glonass-K2, will be launched into orbit at the end of 2021. This was reported to TASS by the General Director of the company "Information Satellite Systems named after M. F. Reshetnev" Nikolai Testoedov.
"This year, one Glonass-K2 device will be launched. We plan this for the fourth quarter, " said Testoyedov.
According to the general director, the supply of on-board equipment has already been fully completed, the device is assembled and is undergoing tests: mechanical thermal vacuum and others. "It usually takes several months," Testoyedov said.
Glonass-K2 is a new generation of navigation satellites of the GLONASS system.
In October last year, the general designer of the GLONASS system, Sergey Karutin, said in an interview with TASS that the new Glonass-K2 spacecraft will provide navigation accuracy of less than 30 cm. In turn, Testoyedov in an interview with TASS reported that the launch of the new navigation satellite "Glonass-K2" was postponed from 2020 to 2021. According to him, some elements of the onboard equipment in the course of ground experiments required further development.
