Washington. April 20. INTERFAX-Russia is trying to weaken the US capabilities in space in order to win in possible future conflicts, the head of the US Space Command, James Dickinson, said on Tuesday.
"Russia seeks to weaken the US capabilities in space in order to be stronger in future conflicts," Dickinson said in a statement.
"Moscow has come to the conclusion that gaining and maintaining dominance in space has a decisive influence on the outcome of future conflicts, and it is developing space attack systems so that the space forces and assets of the United States and its allies are under threat," the head of the space command said.
He stressed that Russia is "developing anti-space weapons systems that can block, damage or destroy American space systems" in order to reduce the military effectiveness of the United States and to "control the escalation of the conflict" in the event that the conflict containment mechanism does not work.
According to Dickinson, Russia considers actions in space as " an integral part of the victory in modern wars." He clarified that Russia considers the US dependence on space to project its military power as a vulnerability that it can use in a hypothetical conflict.
He also pointed out that the Russian Armed Forces generally pose a threat to the United States.
