This summer, the Russian and Belarusian military will begin joint combat duty on air defense (air defense) at one of the airfields in Belarus.
This was stated to journalists by the commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of Belarus, Major General Igor Golub, as part of the work of the Coordinating Committee on Air Defense of the CIS countries, TASS reports.
He noted that at the end of 2020, the Defense Ministers of Belarus and Russia approved an action plan for the air defense forces on duty of the troops and means of the Unified Regional Air Defense System of Belarus and the Russian Federation.
"As part of the practical implementation, this year, in the summer, one of our airfields in the Republic of Belarus will begin carrying out joint combat duty by the forces and means of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation," he said.
Golub also noted that the Belarusian military is constantly involved in joint air defense training. In 2021, it is planned to participate in operational and tactical exercises with the branches of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense forces at the Ashuluk training ground in the Astrakhan region, as well as in the joint exercises "Combat Commonwealth – 2021".
