The first stage of testing of the ramjet pulsing detonation engine demonstrator has been completed in Russia. In the future, it will be used in rocket and space systems, orbital aircraft and hypersonic aircraft.
In comparison with the engines of traditional schemes, the development demonstrated an increase in specific thrust up to 50 percent in certain operating modes, the press service of the Rostec State Corporation reports. Unlike gas turbine schemes, it uses a thermodynamic cycle, which is characterized by greater efficiency. Such an engine will be able to increase the maximum range and payload mass of aircraft by 1.3 - 1.5 times.
For the first time, a model of a pulsating detonation engine was presented at the International Forum "Army-2017". The developers believe that the power plant will improve the flight dynamics and maneuverability of the machines. It can be used to develop traditional systems or as a supplement to them.
The engine is characterized by a simple design, rather low requirements for the values of gas-dynamic parameters. When creating it, the technologies of previous generations of power plants can be used.
- This gives a great commercial and economic advantage compared to the developed advanced engines of traditional schemes,-said the General designer-Director of the Design Bureau named after A. Lyulka (a branch of PJSC "UEC-UMPO", part of JSC "United Engine Corporation") Yevgeny Marchukov.
Recall that the effect of fuel detonation was discovered by Academician Yakov Zeldovich in 1940. In rocket science, this effect opened up significant prospects. Knock gorenje is 25 percent more efficient than the constant-pressure fuel combustion implemented in the chambers of modern liquid-jet engines. This is ensured by the speed of the reaction in a small volume.
