Moscow. April 9. INTERFAX-The Russian military will send air defense units to Serbia in October for exercises, said Yuri Grekhov, commander of the air and missile defense forces, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
"We are waiting for a joint Russian-Serbian air defense exercise "Slavic Shield-2021", which will take place in October on the territory of the Republic of Serbia," he said in an interview with the departmental newspaper "Red Star".
"The features of the exercise are the transfer of air defense units to the territory of another state and the deployment of a joint group of troops and air defense forces in a new positional area to cover the most important objects from enemy air strikes," Grekhov said.
"The participants of the exercise get the practice of joint actions when taking up combat duty and conducting anti-aircraft battles with various types of air targets, including such as unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles and other means of high - precision weapons of the enemy," the commander said.
On October 24, 2019, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that a division of S-400 systems and a battery of Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun systems were transferred by military transport aircraft to Serbia to participate in the exercises. The S-400 division and the Pantsir-S battery then took part in exercises abroad for the first time.
On November 5, 2019, the military announced the return to Russia of S-400 and Pantsir-S ,which participated in exercises in Serbia.
As previously reported, Serbia bought six Pantsir-S complexes from Russia.
The Pantsir-S ZRPC (developed by the Shipunov Instrument Design Bureau, NPO High-Precision Complexes holding) is designed for short-range cover of civilian and military objects from air attack in any weather-climatic and radio-electronic environment day and night. The complex can protect the defended object from ground and surface threats.
The S-400 Triumph air defense system (JSC "Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region") is designed to destroy strategic and tactical aircraft, ballistic missiles, hypersonic targets and other means of air attack in the conditions of electronic and other types of counteraction. The system is capable of hitting aerodynamic targets at a range of up to 400 km, as well as at a range of up to 60 km - ballistic targets flying at speeds of up to 4.8 km/s at altitudes from several meters to several tens of kilometers.
