Tallinn. March 25. INTERFAX - The United States of America has transferred $ 3.3 million worth of radio equipment to the Estonian Defense Forces to support the Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) system.
"The radio equipment received funding from the US Armed Forces European Command's Building Partner Capacity (BPC) Program in accordance with the decision of the US Congress to allocate an allocation of $ 50 million in fiscal year 2020 to support IAMD in the Baltic countries. This delivery will further strengthen the defense of the United States and Estonia, ensuring interoperability between the NATO allies, " the US Embassy in Estonia said on Thursday.
According to the Embassy, the supply of equipment (satchel (AN / PRC-117G) and hand-held (AN / PRC-152G) radios and batteries) to the Estonian Defense Forces is part of numerous long-term BPC programs in Estonia. These programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Defense and are designed to complement Estonia's national defense enhancement efforts, including integrated air and missile defense, maritime alert, and secure communications.
The U.S. Embassy and the Military Defense Cooperation Division in Estonia are working closely with the Ministry of Defense, the Defense Forces, and the Estonian Defense Investment Center to coordinate efforts related to building the IAMD's capacity in Estonia.
