TSAMTO, March 22. The US State Department has approved the potential supply of AGM-114R Hellfire anti-tank missiles and related equipment to the Republic of Korea under the Foreign Military Sales program.
The total cost of delivery may be $ 36 million. The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the planned sale on March 19.
The Government of the Republic of Korea has requested the United States to purchase 288 AGM-114R Hellfire ATGMs. The request also includes the supply of spare parts for the AGM-114R, engineering, technical and logistical support from the US government and the contractor, as well as other related elements of logistics and software support.
As stated, the implementation of this program meets the interests of US foreign policy and national security by strengthening the defense capability of one of the closest allies in the area of responsibility of the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM).
The notification notes that the Republic of Korea intends to use Hellfire missiles to replenish the existing arsenal of AH-64E helicopters. The sale of the requested missiles will strengthen the Republic of Korea's ability to counter existing and future threats and ensure interaction with other AGM-114R Hellfire missile operators in the region. At the same time, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Korea will not experience difficulties when adopting ATGMs.
Lockheed Martin Corporation was selected as the general contractor for the delivery. The buyer usually requests the implementation of an offset program, the details of which will be agreed upon during further negotiations between the customer and the contractor.
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and cost of sale reflect the highest estimates based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities, and signed sales contracts, if any.
