Russian troops took control of the Al-Thawra oil block, located in the south-west of the Syrian province of Raqqa, after the Iranian-backed Fatimiyoun militia abandoned their positions in the area, the pan-Arab newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat (headquarters in London) reported.
This happened after Russian troops established their control over the Tuneinan gas field in the Raqqa countryside. According to sources of the pro-Saudi edition, the Russian military, together with units of the 5th mechanized Division of the Syrian Armed Forces, arrived at the Al-Tawra oil facility, which produces about 2,000 barrels of oil per day. Until 2010, before the start of the war in the Arab Republic, this field produced about 6,000 barrels of oil per day.
As for the Tuneinan gas block, which until recently was also controlled by pro-Iranian militias, it produces 3 million cubic meters of blue fuel per day and two thousand barrels of gas condensate.
Nine Russian armored vehicles and four armored personnel carriers carrying soldiers of the 5th mechanized division of the Syrian army entered the Al-Tawra oil facility after the Fatimiyun militia (Afghan Shiites) left the facility as part of an agreement reached with the Russian military, Eadaily reports.
