The state corporation reported that the ban is related to the need to secure the data

MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. The State Corporation "Rostec" confirmed the existence of restrictions for employees to use such foreign applications as Zoom, Skype and WhatsApp, specifying that these applications are prohibited to install on corporate laptops and computers. This was reported to journalists on Thursday in the press service of Rostec.

Earlier, the RBC publication reported that business communication of employees of defense enterprises in WhatsApp, Skype and Zoom was suppressed. In the near future, it should be translated into domestic messengers. The reason is called changes in the privacy policy of the WhatsApp messenger.

"Rostec is the largest industrial company that works in the defense sector and develops high-tech civilian areas in aviation, engine building, electronics, medicine, pharmaceuticals, and other areas. This dictates very serious requirements for ensuring information security. Foreign applications <...> are not allowed to be installed on corporate equipment. Instead, we offer a list of recommended products that guarantee the necessary level of information security, " the press service of the state corporation said, adding that the use of such applications on personal devices of employees is not subject to restrictions.

Rostec noted that today the domestic IT industry offers corporate customers a large set of messengers that allow them to dispense with common foreign analogues without compromising business processes.

They also clarified that the corporate restrictions were introduced much earlier than the new WhatsApp policy was announced. "That is, the risks did not arise now, they have always existed, and we were obliged to level them," Rostec noted.

Earlier it was reported that Rostec has developed its own IVA AVES S system, which is designed primarily for video conferencing and makes it possible to conduct sessions without delays in the broadcast with the participation of up to 250 people. Its functionality also includes text chat, event planner, conducting surveys, recording conferences, and file sharing. Throughout the pandemic, online meetings were held on this platform.
