Andrey Taranov noted that PR is not the main task of the armed forces, and the closure of some information allows you to achieve success in combat operations
MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. Full openness of information about the armed forces, equipment and the order of their use can affect the country's defense capability and enable a potential enemy to prepare for any type of conflict, said Andrey Taranov, Deputy Head of the Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for perpetuating the memory of those killed in the defense of the Fatherland.
"The openness of the army and the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is not always a useful thing. Because the more information about the armed forces, equipment, the order of their use, and so on, the easier it is, so to speak, for potential partners in conducting military operations, to plan their actions and prepare for any kind of conflict, from informational to armed, " Taranov said at a round table in TASS dedicated to the image of the Russian army in the media field.
"Therefore, [closeness] is not always a minus," he said. According to the deputy head of the department, at least this applies to military science, the development of new weapons and equipment, the staffing of the armed forces with this equipment, and so on. "In other words, I believe that being closed is one of the advantages over the enemy," he added.
According to Taranov, open data is published in collections, where you can evaluate the capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and get acquainted with the figures. "As for the presence in social networks, of course, there is something to work on, and I think that together we will move in this direction," said the deputy head of the department.
He noted that PR is not the main task of the armed forces, and the closure of some information allows you to achieve success in combat operations. "We need a balance here," Taranov added.
Data from the survey of the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM)" The Russian Army in the mirror of public opinion", presented today in TASS, say that 40% of Russians are aware of the situation in the army, 46% are poorly informed.
