MOSCOW, February 18. Tsniitochmash (part of Rostec) has started manufacturing prototypes of the new Ugolek sniper rifle, which is scheduled for state testing in 2022. This was reported to TASS in the press service of the state Corporation "Rostec".
"Currently, the production of prototypes of sniper complexes for preliminary tests is being carried out. State tests are scheduled to begin in 2022, " the press service said.
Now the main sniper rifle in the Russian army is the Dragunov sniper rifle (SVD), which was adopted in the 1960s.
The Ugolek sniper complex is developed entirely from domestic materials and components. It is supposed to be equipped with new sighting systems. The new rifle will use Russian cartridges, but in NATO calibers: in caliber .308 Winchester (7. 62x51 mm) and in a much more powerful-.338 Lapua Magnum (8. 6x70 mm).
