Russia is creating the world's first anti-tank missile system capable of shooting down drones. On the air of Sputnik radio, military expert Vadim Kozyulin told how difficult the task is to be solved by engineers and designers.
The Instrument Engineering Design Bureau (KBP, part of Rostec) is developing a multi-purpose anti-tank missile system (ATGM) that has no analogues in the world, capable of effectively shooting down previously "unattainable targets", including drones. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the industrial director of the Rostec weapons complex, Bekhan Ozdoev.
According to him, special combined homing heads with two channels – thermal and optical-will be developed for the new complex.
"New tele-thermal homing heads are being created. The new ammunition will be applied according to the principle of "fire and forget"," added defence.
According to the agency, new compositions of explosives are being developed for ammunition.
So far, no country in the world is armed with anti-tank systems that can confidently hit such small-sized and maneuverable targets as drones.
Vadim Kozyulin, Professor of the Academy of Military Sciences, director of the project on new technologies and international Security at the PIR Center, said on Sputnik radio that Russian developers face a difficult task.
