MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. The draft intergovernmental agreement on the deployment in Mexico of the Russian station of the automated warning system for dangerous situations in near-Earth space (ASPOS OKP) is in the final stage of preparation. This was reported to TASS by the Deputy Director General of Roscosmos for international Cooperation Sergey Savelyev.
"The draft intergovernmental agreement with Mexico is at the final stage," he said.
According to the Deputy Director General of Roscosmos, it will be possible to talk about the direct placement of the station and its commissioning as soon as the agreement is signed and ratified. Savelyev also recalled that the process of placing the ASPOS OKP ground complex is associated with the availability of an appropriate regulatory framework for cooperation with foreign partners.
The automated warning system for dangerous situations in near-Earth space has been created and has been functioning since 2016. According to data posted on the public procurement portal in 2019, the optoelectronic complex in Mexico was planned to be put into operation in 2020. Such systems automatically detect spacecraft and space debris objects and determine their coordinates.
