Roscosmos noted that there is no body in the republic with the relevant government powers to implement the provisions of the intergovernmental agreement on outer space
MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. Russian-Chilean negotiations on the deployment of an automated warning system for dangerous situations in near-Earth space in the South American country have been temporarily suspended. This was reported to TASS by the Deputy Director General of Roscosmos for international Cooperation Sergey Savelyev.
"At present, the Russian-Chilean dialogue, including on the placement of the ASPOS OKP station, is temporarily suspended," he said.
According to the Deputy Director General, Chile does not have a body with appropriate government powers to implement the provisions of the intergovernmental agreement on outer space. "The timing of the creation of the national space agency has not been set and in the run - up to the presidential elections in Chile in 2021 may be significantly postponed," he said.
The automated warning system for dangerous situations in near-Earth space has been created and has been functioning since 2016. According to data posted on the public procurement portal in 2019, the optoelectronic complex in Chile was planned to be put into operation in the third quarter of 2020. Such systems automatically detect spacecraft and space debris objects and determine their coordinates.
