Pushkov responded to Stoltenberg's call to resist Russian aggression
NATO should understand that the world will no longer live by the rules developed in "three or four Western capitals," said Senator Alexei Pushkov. So he commented on the words of the Secretary General of the alliance Jens Stoltenberg about the need to prepare for "Russian aggression" and increase military budgets.
Almost no one in the world wants to follow the rules that Western countries and NATO impose on other states. A member of the Federation Council, Alexey Pushkov, wrote about this on Twitter, commenting on the words of the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Jens Stoltenberg.
Stoltenberg earlier called on members of the NATO military committee to support the defense capabilities of their states, including in order to adequately respond, if necessary, to "aggressive actions of Russia." He also said that NATO members need to increase investment in modern weapons.
The soldiers of the alliance countries should be ready to respond not only to "Russian aggression", but also to such challenges as international terrorism and the "rise of China".
In late December, Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO does not regard Russia as an immediate military threat.
"I do not see an immediate threat from Russia in the form of a military attack. But I can see Russia, which was approved. It uses its military power against its neighbors-Georgia and Ukraine, " the Secretary General of the alliance said.
A week earlier, Bundeswehr General and chief of staff of the US Army in Wiesbaden, Jared Sembritzki, in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, said that NATO turned to the East because of the "Russian threat". He drew attention to the fact that the situation in Eastern Europe was unstable even before the situation with Crimea.
When asked whether Russia can be called the main threat, he answered in the affirmative. "The Russian threat is real. Russia continues to arm itself, massively modernizing its armed forces and increasingly demonstrating its desire for power. Russian tanks are a reality, as are missiles and planes, " the military said.
As the military commander noted, Islamic terror threatens to a greater extent each individual person. "But we, as the military, cannot resist it. And China is quite far from us geographically, " he explained.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to Russia's accusations of "aggressive behavior", said that this is " a conversation in favor of the poor." Putin noted that the activity of military aviation of NATO countries is much higher than the activity of the Russian Aerospace Forces. In addition, the Russian leader did not fail to remind that the US defense budget is the largest in the world.
The Kremlin has repeatedly stressed that Moscow's foreign policy does not carry any aggressive intentions - the Russian Federation only resists the pressure that NATO increases every year.
