December 15. interfax-cooperation between russia and china in the asia-pacific region is an important factor against the background of the us deployment of the global missile defense system (abm) and the us intentions to deploy medium-and shorter-range missiles, russian defense minister sergei shoigu said at a meeting in a video link with chinese defense minister wei fenghe.
following the talks, a protocol to the bilateral agreement on the exchange of data on launches of ballistic missiles and space launch vehicles was signed.
"The continuation of data exchange will contribute to the equitable cooperation of Russia and China in the Asia-Pacific region. this is especially important when the arms control system has actually been destroyed, the deployment of components of the us global missile defense system continues, and the intention to deploy new us-made medium-and shorter-range missiles in the region is declared, " shoigu said.
