In the Voronezh center for rocket propulsion (part of the integrated structure rocket propulsion, headed by JSC "NPO Energomash" state Corporation "Roscosmos") made the first model rocket engine РД0124МС developed for use in promising domestic carrier rocket of space appointment "Soyuz-5".
The manufactured model is intended for dynamic testing of the rocket stage, which is one of the stages of creating a new rocket and space complex. Simultaneously with the production of the first engine layout, the company is completing the Assembly of an experimental installation that includes an engine combustion chamber with a cylindrical nozzle. Its fire tests will be held early next year at the Voronezh fire stand.
Sergey Kovalev, Director of KBHA JSC: "for a year now, employees of the chemical automation Design Bureau and the Voronezh mechanical plant have been performing production tasks as a single team. Despite the epidemic situation, we have maintained the rhythm and dynamics in key areas, an example of which is the successful continuation of work on the creation of the RD0124MS engine. The production of the first copy can be called the event of the year for our team. This is the first project in which we are implementing the use of a PLM system-a set of application software for product lifecycle management. It helps not only to link the work of designers in a digital three-dimensional environment into a single process, but also provides further end-to-end automation of technological preparation of production and manufacturing of developed parts and assemblies."
Chief designer of the company Viktor Gorokhov: "by the end of this year, the development of working design documentation for the engine will be fully completed. The manufacturing process of its key units has already been tested. In parallel, our company is preparing the production and bench base for ground fire testing of experimental installations and engines RD0124MS. Next year, we will have to perform a large amount of work on this topic: to test the experimental installation with both a cylindrical nozzle and a full-size nozzle, to start finishing tests of the engine, to ensure the production of the engine for fire bench tests as part of the second stage of the LV unit. For these tasks, our team conducted serious design and technological training in 2020, so we are confident that the upcoming work will be completed in accordance with the approved schedules."
The RD0124MS rocket engine with a 60-ton void thrust runs on naphthyl + liquid oxygen fuel components and is intended for use in the second stage of the Soyuz-5 launch vehicle. The engine consists of two blocks located on a common frame. Each of the blocks consists of two combustion chambers. The engine ensures that the cameras swing in two planes, as well as work when one of the units is turned off.
