South Korean soldiers will not part with smartphones even on the battlefield. Yesterday, December 5, the Yonhap news Agency reported that the Administration of defense acquisition programs (DAPA, Defense Acquisition Program Administration) announced the purchase of "combat information devices" (combat information device) from the company LIG Nex1.
The soldier's gadgets will be an adapted version of the Samsung S20 Tactical Edition smartphone. A key feature of the device will be the possibility of group communication without connecting to an external repeater.

In addition, the gadget will be able to receive images from a number of compact combat and intelligence systems, the purchase of which was announced earlier. The army and marine Corps will be the first to receive combat smartphones. After the test operation, a decision will be made on the mass purchase of such devices for soldiers.
The Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition is still the same Galaxy S20 with some additional software features and security options in a rugged Juggernaut case. From a hardware point of view, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition has identical specifications. The device is equipped with a 6.2-inch OLED display, a Snapdragon 865 processor, 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal flash memory. A triple main camera and 5G support are also offered.
According to the developers, Samsung Tactical Edition "caters to the unique needs of military operators"by offering additional software features. These include night vision mode, which disables the display so as not to blind the user when wearing night vision glasses, and the ability to unlock the phone when it is in landscape orientation. Additionally, the so-called "stealth mode" is mentioned, which promises to "mute all radio frequency broadcasting for full Autonomous communication."
