It became known that several sniper rifles are being developed as part of the actively ongoing development work "Ugolek".
One of the most famous is our SVD-self-loading Dragunov rifle. It became the most popular sniper rifle in the world, demonstrating its reliability and accuracy of combat at a distance of up to 500 meters. Although, as they say, its Creator did not consider the SVD a sniper weapon, but only a rapid-fire rifle with increased combat accuracy. But it is worth repeating, in all the armies of the world it has taken root as a sniper.
However, the SVD adopted almost 60 years ago is outdated. And now several weapons systems are being prepared to replace it. And the other will be not only rifles, but also the caliber along with the cartridge.
Calibers will be, we can say, NATO-7, 62x51 (.308 Win.) and 8, 6x70 (.338 Lapua Magnum). By the way, the caliber .338 Lapua Magnum is considered almost the main one in modern Western-made sniper rifles. It will soon be used in our army as well.
Three domestic weapons companies are working on creating new-generation rifles at once: Kalashnikov concern, Klimovsky TSNIITOCHMASH and Tula TsKIB soo. So the competition is strong. This means that as a result of natural selection, rifles can turn out to be quite worthy.
According to the Kalashnikov concern, the feature of the developed rifles will be the complete rejection of foreign materials, components and technologies in relation to weapons, ammunition and sighting systems.
