Biden's desire to strengthen relations with the EU will be accompanied by a "mini-detente" with China, which will increase geopolitical pressure on Russia
Moscow. November 25. INTERFAX-us presidential Candidate Joe Biden as the new owner of the White house may enter into negotiations with Moscow on the extension of start-3, but we should expect a very tough negotiating position from him, says Dmitry Trenin, Director of the Carnegie Moscow center.
"Biden supports the preservation of the arms control system, including the extension of the start-3 Treaty, but he prefers to negotiate from a position of strength. Therefore, it may well go to the deployment of American missiles near the Russian borders, " writes Trenin in his analytical article published on Wednesday on the website of the Carnegie Moscow center.
According to him, if negotiations resume, Washington can demonstrate the toughest possible position. "If the United States starts negotiations with Russia on strategic stability under Biden, they may turn out to be one of the toughest in the history of the issue," Trenin believes.
In General, Biden's desire to strengthen relations with the EU will be accompanied by a "mini-detente" with China, which, as the expert notes, is also sought by official Beijing.
