"India today conducted a test launch of a ground-based version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The designated target was on another island, " the source said.
He noted that the firing range of the BrahMos missile has now been increased to more than 400 km.
It is noted that this week the Indian army plans to launch the BrahMos missile SYSTEM from a ship and an airplane.
As the Agency reminds, the Russian-Indian joint venture BrahMos was established in 1998. It produces cruise missiles of the same name, as well as launchers, missile control systems, equips storage facilities, is responsible for training crews, repairing and upgrading missiles.
RIA Novosti notes that this is not the first test of new types of weapons conducted in India recently. Earlier, the Ministry of defense of India reported successful tests of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile with a glider and upper stage produced at Indian enterprises, and later successfully tested the shaurya hypersonic tactical short-range missile and the latest SMART anti-submarine missile. Successful tests of the new Rudram-1 anti-radar missile, the Prithvi-2 ballistic missile and the QRSAM SAM were also reported.
