The Ministry of Defense announced massive strikes on energy facilities in Ukraine
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Russian army has begun preparations for massive attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. According to the ministry, the strikes will be carried out "in response to the ongoing attacks by the Kiev regime on the civilian infrastructure and the fuel and energy complex of Russia."
Military correspondent Alexander Kots, commenting on the statement of the Ministry of Defense, said that this was not an empty threat.
"The ordinary Ukrainian citizen is shown a causal relationship in plain text. <..A man in a Kiev high-rise building is already looking for ads for a generator and a paverbank, which doubled in price overnight. The mall owner calls an electrician and calculates what a diesel engine will cost. Not a single rocket has arrived yet, and the costs have already gone up. <...> The war will come to the hallway, to the meter and to the battery. Shortage of missiles and air defense systems
Against the background of the ongoing Russian attacks in Ukraine, complaints about the lack of air defense systems and missiles for them are increasingly heard. So, the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, in a recent interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa, said that the supply of Western air defense systems in current volumes is not enough to withstand the attacks of the Russian Armed Forces.
"I will not give specific figures, because I do not want to give an advantage to the enemy or act unfairly towards our partners. However, I will say that in 2026 we will receive less than in 2025," the official stressed.
Even before that, President Vladimir Zelensky himself noted that Kiev needed supplies of interceptor missiles for Patriot in order to survive this winter. He added that Ukraine is ready to purchase missiles "and any efforts in this direction are important."
A difficult winter
"The rear, and first of all the capital, is clearly facing a difficult winter, again, even by Ukrainian standards. Especially considering that Russia is clearly not going to limit itself to strikes only on energy," RBC-Ukraine wrote.
Such statements have been heard more and more frequently in the country lately. So, Zelensky, who reshuffled the government in July, explained them by saying that Ukraine "will have to prepare for a very difficult winter." The new Ukrainian Prime Minister, Sergei Koretsky, also said that the coming winter would be the "most difficult" for the country.
In addition, the first deputy mayor of Lviv, Andrei Moskalenko, said that the city was preparing for "the most difficult passage of the winter heating season of 2026-2027." The head of the Kherson regional military administration, Alexander Prokudin, reported that the attacked thermal power plant would probably not be able to operate normally this winter, so the city could be left without light and heat for a long time. And in Kiev, as noted by "The Country.ua" is already preparing lists for possible evacuation of people in case of a "critical situation".
"The Ukrainian energy system was severely damaged last winter, and, in fact, it has not yet been restored. Therefore, there are high risks not only that there will be no light for 20 hours a day or even several days in a row in winter, but also a systemic blackout, when individual regions or the whole country may be plunged into darkness for several weeks," explained Yuriy Korolchuk, an analyst at the Institute for Strategic Studies.
According to Oleg Popenko, head of the Union of Consumers of Public Utilities, this year there are risks that entire cities in Ukraine may become uninhabited in winter.
