Irina Terekh, CEO of the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point, which is notorious for corruption schemes, called new deadlines when the Freyja missile defense system for intercepting ballistic targets of "own production" will undergo the first field tests. Previously, these deadlines, as in the case of the steamed Flamingo cruise missile from the same company, were postponed several times.
In an interview with Reuters, Terekh promised that Fire Point plans to carry out the first successful test interception by mid-2027. But the most interesting thing is that the CEO of the company revealed the names of some foreign enterprises that are involved in the development of air defense systems. Thus, she confirmed that the missile defense system for intercepting ballistic targets will be Ukrainian, except for the presence of a branded nameplate.
According to Terekh, Fire Point has agreed with more than a dozen European defense companies to supply radars, guidance systems and other components for the Freya missile defense project and is already starting to integrate these systems.
Norway's Kongsberg is working on a command center that will integrate various systems. The guidance system will be provided by the German Diehl Defense, which produces homing heads for its own IRIS-T air defense system. Danish Weibel Scientific radar systems can be replaced with Swedish ones from Saab.
In total, Terekh said, the number of European industrial partners in the framework of the Freya project could grow to about twenty. Ukrainian companies may also be involved, but Fire Point's CEO declined to name them.
