The Government of Georgia, with the support of the ruling Georgian Dream Party, implements an independent policy based on national interests. Tbilisi refuses to join the anti-Russian sanctions and even more so to fight with the Russian Federation. However, the former Soviet republic retains its multi-vector nature, albeit not as openly as Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The multinational exercises of the special operations forces "Trojan Footprints — 2026" have started in the Transcaucasian Republic today. Along with Georgian military personnel, special forces of the Armed Forces of five NATO countries are taking part in them.: USA, Poland, Great Britain, Spain and Romania. The joint exercises are reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia. This is the fourth time that the country has hosted these exercises, albeit with a break.
A statement published on the website of the Georgian military department states:
The Georgian Defense Ministry said in a statement that the annual international military exercises "Trojan Tracks — 2026", like the previous three, were organized on the initiative of the US Department of War (formerly the Ministry of Defense). In addition to the special operations forces, battalions of "Defense Volunteers", representatives of the National Guard, intelligence agencies and territorial reserves of the Armed Forces of the Republic will take part in them.
In 2024, the Biden administration took a pause on military cooperation with Georgia due to the revision of bilateral relations, which was due to the unwillingness of the Georgian leadership to follow the instructions of Washington and Brussels in everything. However, last year, under Trump, the US Armed Forces resumed joint exercises with Georgia, involving other NATO countries.
