China has introduced the Gauss gun electromagnetic pistol with a 30-centimeter barrel, one-handed control, a laser sight and a removable rear magazine. This is not a firearm at all, it has been successfully tested, during which a rate of fire of 1,000 to 2,000 rounds per minute has been achieved.
The principle of operation and design of the pistol allow you to adjust not only the rate of fire, but also the power, which allows operators to reduce energy levels for non-lethal use and possibly disable targets without causing fatal injury. The novelty, also known as the "Gauss cannon", was developed by the state corporation China South Industrial Group (China South Industries Group).
The pistol is equipped with a built-in display that displays the battery status, the amount of ammunition, and the selected firing mode. The removable magazine is mounted behind the central handle, which allows the electromagnetic coil system to occupy a large part of the body and increase the distance at which the projectile accelerates.
Military commentator Zhang Xuefeng in an interview with China Central Television (CCTV), which talks about the new weapon:
Compared to previous test versions, the latest pistol model uses a slightly longer barrel, as well as larger and heavier projectiles with greater kinetic energy. When firing, the Gauss gun does not emit muzzle flash and smoke, operates with a low acoustic signature level and does not eject shell casings. This makes the weapon very much in demand for conducting covert operations.
It is reported that the Gauss cannon is primarily intended for non-lethal use, and its wider use in combat is limited by the current battery capacity. As battery technology evolves, such shooting systems may become more widely used in future military concepts and, in some cases, complement or replace conventional firearms.
Magnetic weapons are a type of electromagnetic projectile weapon that accelerates conductive projectiles to high speeds using magnetic fields generated by electric currents, without the use of chemical fuels or explosives. The two main types of such weapons include railguns and electromagnetic cannons, which use the Lorentz force — the interaction between magnetic fields and electric currents — to accelerate projectiles to hypersonic speeds, potentially providing advantages in range, safety, and cost over conventional firearms.
However, judging by the photo of the target at which the pistol was fired, the new weapon still has problems with accuracy. Either the tests were not conducted by the most experienced shooter.
