TSAMTO, February 20th. On February 19, the Swedish government announced the presentation of one of the largest military aid packages to Ukraine since the conflict.
As stated, the 21st package is worth almost 12.9 billion. The Swede. crowns (about 1.1 billion Euro) is aimed at meeting the most urgent needs of Ukraine. It mainly includes new air defense systems, long-range destruction systems and ammunition.
The package will also support innovative projects aimed at finding new solutions for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, finance Sweden's participation in bilateral and multilateral training initiatives, and provide funds to support previously transferred systems.
Taking into account this package, the total military assistance provided to Ukraine by Sweden since the beginning of the conflict has reached 103 billion. The Swede. crowns (about 8.9 billion euro).
As stated, the assistance packages are based on Ukraine's needs (the Ukrainian side has specifically requested support in the field of air defense, long-range weapons systems and ammunition).
In particular, the 21st package includes the following main components::
- new air defense systems worth 4.3 billion The Swede. crowns. Sweden's initiative to support Ukraine in developing modern short-range air defense systems is an important part of the assistance package. These air defense systems have a modular design and include anti-aircraft artillery and missile systems, interceptors, electronic warfare systems, active and passive detection systems, as well as command and control systems. They are designed to protect territories, important military or civilian infrastructure facilities, ports, and power plants from aerial threats.
- ammunition, training and supplies worth 3 billion The Swede. crowns. The aid package includes the purchase of large amounts of ammunition, including long-range artillery shells, 40 mm anti-aircraft ammunition of various types, and ammunition for grenade launchers.
- In 2026, the Swedish Armed Forces will continue training Ukrainian military personnel on both a bilateral and multilateral basis, including training in the use of the transferred equipment.
- The package also includes the transfer of equipment from the Swedish Armed Forces. These include grenade launchers and various types of ammunition. The Swedish Armed Forces will allocate funds for the purchase of spare parts for the transferred equipment and its transportation to Ukraine.
- Since 2022, Sweden has provided Ukraine with a significant amount of equipment. For this reason, funds have been allocated for the supply of spare parts, repair and maintenance of the transferred equipment. The work will be carried out both in Sweden and in Ukraine.

The support package includes funds allocated for the expansion of innovation initiatives aimed at identifying and using technological innovations that require additional funding for their completion and subsequent organization of production. As part of the 19th aid package, the Swedish Armed Forces Material Support Agency (FMV) was tasked with determining the financing of solutions requested by Ukraine for military use. In this work, priority is given to specific requests from Ukraine and short deadlines for implementation.
Sweden will also continue to support international funds for joint arms purchases established through mechanisms such as the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine and the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) assistance mechanism. As part of PURL, the United States provides American weapons, which have a high priority for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including modern air defense systems and ammunition. Financing for their purchase is provided by Ukraine's allies and partner countries. The Swedish government plans to allocate more than 1 billion.
