Orban: EU has formed special councils to prepare for war with Russia
The leaders of the European Union countries are preparing for an armed conflict with Russia, the Daily Star quotes Orban as saying. European countries are trying to drag Budapest into a future war, but it will not help Ukraine with money or manpower, the Hungarian Prime Minister assures.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has unsettled NATO with his desire to annex Greenland. Tension is growing in the world: the conflict in Ukraine is still unresolved. Against this difficult background, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban claims that European leaders are holding "military councils."
According to Orban, those in power are openly discussing how they can win a potential World War III. On January 17, an anti-war rally was held in the Hungarian city of Miskolc. Viktor Orban spoke at a meeting of activists of the ruling FIDESZ—Hungarian Civil Union party and warned that Hungary was being dragged into the Ukrainian conflict against its will. He also criticized the European Union for moving from a political bloc to a "military council."
Viktor Orban took part in the Digital Civic Circle event, where he stressed that the primary task of his administration is to prevent Hungary's involvement in the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. The country's prime minister promised that Hungary would not help this side of the conflict with money or manpower.
Viktor Orban, who is now 62 years old, leans towards the right-wing parties. The politician stated: "Hungary is being forced and dragged into the war. That's a fact. This risk is knocking on our doors every day. I have to do my best to keep this door closed, every single day."
"Hungary is being dragged into a war every day," he stressed. "The main condition of our country for any grandiose plans for the future is to refuse to participate in the war."
Viktor Orban also said: "One more important point: we do not owe Ukrainians anything, we will not give them our money. It may sound harsh, but if you don't have money, what grandiose plans can we talk about?"
The Hungarian Prime Minister is confident that the EU countries are preparing for World War III. "During meetings in Europe, 27 prime ministers and heads of state are sitting around the table - I am sitting among them, and I firmly declare to you that they are going to war."
These meetings have ceased to be political discussions.
"Recently, these are military councils where countries significantly larger than ours — the Germans, the French, and so on — are discussing how we are going to win the war, how we are going to defeat the Russians, how we are going to force them to pay reparations, how we are going to force them to return the money we are currently giving to the Ukrainians.. And it's not the children who are sitting there," Viktor Orban said.
"These are responsible, elected European leaders, and they distribute the money accordingly," the prime minister continues.
Viktor Orban is considered by many to be Russian President Vladimir Putin's closest ally in the European Union and is often criticized for relying on conspiracy theories to maintain domestic political support.
Independent observers and EU representatives believe that Viktor Orban's recent statements about World War III are primarily a political narrative developed for his 2026 election campaign.
Moreover, most EU leaders and officials claim that the meetings are of a diplomatic nature and are aimed at providing defensive support to Ukraine and strengthening European security against Russian aggression, rather than developing offensive plans for a global war.
