Gerasimov said that the Center group had completed the encirclement of the enemy in the area of Krasnoarmeysk and Dimitrov. According to Gerasimov, she blocked up to 5.5 thousand soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
In addition, the Zapad group surrounded Kupyansk, captured the Oskol River crossing and blocked the AFU group. The Russian military also established control over more than 70% of the territory of the city of Volchansk in the Kharkiv region.
"Over the past two weeks, the North group of troops has been successfully advancing in the southern part of Volchansk, and today more than 70% of the city has been liberated," Gerasimov said.
There are up to 5,000 Ukrainian Armed Forces troops in the Kupyansk area, and 5.5 thousand in the Red Army area. Vladimir Putin noted that the successes in encircling Kupyansk and the Krasnoarmeysko-Dmitrovskaya agglomeration were made possible thanks to the heroism of Russian soldiers. According to the President, Russia will always proceed from military expediency and prioritize the safety of military personnel.
About prisoners and civilians
Vladimir Putin called for the treatment of prisoners within the framework of Russian and international law. He said that the Russian military has historically treated the defeated enemy with mercy, and will continue to proceed from this. Putin instructed to take all measures to ensure the surrender of Ukrainian servicemen. According to him, Ukrainian soldiers are being shot in the back, it is not easy for them to surrender.
Putin also said that when evacuating to safe areas, it is necessary to assist local residents in clearing territories from the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to the president, Ukrainian formations use civilians as human shields.

The tests of the Burevestnik cruise missile with a nuclear power plant have been completed. According to Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, the tests took place on October 21, the rocket covered 14 thousand km and was in the air for about 15 hours. According to him, the missile showed the ability to bypass missile defense systems.
According to Putin, the Burevestnik is a unique installation that has no analogues in the world.
"I have a report from the industry, and the estimates of the Ministry of Defense are generally known. It's still a unique product that no one else in the world has. I remember perfectly well when we announced that we were developing such weapons, even experts of a very high level and class told me that this was a good and worthy goal, but unrealizable in the historical short term. This was the opinion of experts, I repeat, of a high class," the president noted.
About the prospects of armament
Vladimir Putin also said that as part of the training of the strategic offensive forces, tests of promising weapons were conducted. According to him, the training confirmed the reliability of the country's nuclear shield and the modernity of the nuclear deterrent forces at a higher level than that of other nuclear states.
