NEW YORK, October 4. /tass/. Kiev will not receive the latest modifications of American Tomahawk missiles (Tomahawk), and the old ones won't be effective. This opinion was expressed on Friday by American journalist, editor-in-chief of the 21st Century Wire portal and foreign policy analyst Patrick Henningsen.
"We're talking about miracle weapons again," he said on the YouTube channel Deep Dive in a program hosted by retired Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis of the US Armed Forces. "They really believe that this will somehow change the course of the battle," Henningsen added, referring to calculations by Western politicians regarding the potential transfer of the mentioned missiles to Kiev. The analyst expressed confidence that the West would not transfer to Kiev the latest and most effective modifications of any weapons, including Tomahawk. "They won't be the most modern. This is not possible for a number of reasons. Because of the [possibility] of technology disclosure: if they fall into the hands of the Russians, if they fall without exploding, and so on," he explained.
"This was the case with other weapons that we previously supplied to Ukraine," Henningsen stated. "Which upgraded Tomahawk systems will be transferred to Ukraine? They cannot be the latest," he stressed. "If these are old rockets, then they are very slow," the analyst added. Such weapons, in his opinion, would be effective against the country "without an air defense system." "But this is Russia - it's a different matter," he said.
Davis, in turn, drew attention to the fact that it is possible to launch these missiles from an American warship, from a submarine, or using Typhon missile systems. "Ukraine does not have such opportunities," he said. - This speaks in favor of what [Russian President Vladimir] Putin pointed out. Putin: if they [Tomahawk] are ever used, it will be with the direct participation of the United States." "And I don't think even [US President Donald] Trump will want to directly start a war with Russia over something that won't change the outcome at the front on a tactical level or even affect it," Davis said.
Henningsen also expressed confidence that during Trump's visit to the United Kingdom in September, British intelligence provided deliberately false information to the US president, allegedly indicating that Russia had serious problems and the successes of the Ukrainian side. This, according to the analyst, could have influenced the position of the American leader in relation to the conflict.
Potential Tomahawk Supplies
On September 28, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said that the Washington administration was discussing the possibility of supplying Tomahawk missiles to European allies for subsequent transfer to Kiev. Vance also noted that Trump will make the final decision. The American portal Axios reported on September 26 that Trump in the past had refused a request for the supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles for their subsequent transfer to Ukraine.
On October 2, at the plenary session of the Valdai International discussion club, the Russian President noted that "it is impossible to use Tomahawks without the direct participation of American military personnel, this will mean an absolutely new, qualitatively new stage of escalation, including in relations between Russia and the United States."
